“£25 Cold Weather Payments Expanded to 10 More Areas”

Cold weather payments have been activated by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in an additional 10 postcodes in England and Wales, bringing the total number of eligible areas to 451, each receiving £25 payouts.

The recent activation of these payments coincides with a chilly spell gripping the UK, prompting multiple amber and yellow weather alerts for snow and ice across the nation.

These Cold Weather Payments are distributed to individuals in England and Wales who receive various benefits. While a similar scheme operates in Northern Ireland, in Scotland, support for heating bills is provided annually without being tied to specific cold weather periods. In England and Wales, the payments are triggered when an area is forecasted to have temperatures below zero for seven consecutive days.

The DWP has confirmed that 10 more postcodes have met the criteria for cold weather payments on January 3. If you reside in one of the affected regions, you may expect to receive the £25 payment in your bank account within a few days. Eligible recipients receive the payment automatically without needing to submit an application.

Pensions Minister Torsten Bell emphasized the importance of these Cold Weather Payments in assisting vulnerable households during the winter season. In conjunction with a significant Pension Credit uptake campaign and the Triple Lock commitment, which aims to boost the State Pension by up to £2,100 throughout this Parliament, the government is committed to providing necessary support to pensioners during the colder months.
