“Dr. Amir Khan’s Tips: Safely Use Hot Water Bottles”

Share

As temperatures decrease in the UK, many individuals are resorting to hot water bottles for warmth. However, using a hot water bottle correctly is essential to avoid potential dangers, as highlighted by ITV’s Dr. Amir Khan in a recent Instagram video.

Dr. Amir shared expert advice on proper hot water bottle usage, emphasizing the importance of checking the bottle’s manufacturing date for safety. Hot water bottles should be replaced every two to three years due to rubber degradation over time. Using an outdated bottle can lead to cracking, splitting, or leaking scalding water, causing burns.

To ensure safe use, fill the bottle with warm water, not boiling water, up to two-thirds capacity, and eliminate any air before sealing it with the stopper. Always use a fabric cover to prevent direct skin contact. Additionally, regularly inspect the bottle and stopper for wear and tear, replacing it if any damage is detected.

Remember not to leave a hot water bottle on one area of the body for more than 20-30 minutes to prevent burns. It’s advised not to use a hot water bottle simultaneously with an electric blanket. Following these safety guidelines is crucial for using hot water bottles effectively and securely.
