A mother shared the heartbreaking story of losing both her daughter and granddaughter within hours of each other. Mellodie-Ocean Jarman, a 19-year-old from Atherton, Greater Manchester, was 33 weeks pregnant when she was rushed to Royal Bolton Hospital due to breathing difficulties and vision problems. Despite efforts to save her, Mellodie went into cardiac arrest and tragically passed away shortly after giving birth via emergency C-section to her premature daughter, Athena-Pearl.
Justine Ryan, Mellodie’s mother, was present as both her daughter and granddaughter took their last breaths. She expressed her devastation, stating, “Mellodie was my only daughter, and I was so happy to have my first granddaughter – I’ve lost both my girls.” Mellodie’s boyfriend, Daniel Derbyshire, recounted the heart-wrenching decision to remove Athena-Pearl from life support, allowing her to pass away in her mother’s arms.
The sequence of events began with Mellodie experiencing dizziness during a routine pregnancy scan and being sent home with medication for low iron levels. Just a day later, after a meal with her mother, Mellodie’s health rapidly deteriorated, leading to her eventual passing. Justine recalled the distressing moment when Mellodie took her final breath in her arms, highlighting the sudden and tragic turn of events.
The family’s heartbreaking ordeal serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the unforeseeable nature of tragedy.
