“Beware of Ineffective Car Windscreen Defrosting Hacks, Warns AA”

When you’re in a rush, dealing with an icy windscreen can be quite a hassle, especially on hectic mornings.

Despite the abundance of online tips for quickly defrosting your car windscreen, experts at the AA (Automobile Association) caution against falling for them.

The AA has highlighted that many videos claiming to offer ingenious methods for defrosting your car are ineffective or could potentially create additional issues.

For instance, one popular method involves using hot water in a sandwich bag to melt the ice on the windscreen, which may lead to sticky wipers. Another method involves rubbing half a potato on the windscreen, resulting in smeared windows that obstruct visibility.

For a fast and effective way to defrost a car windscreen, experts recommend starting by turning on the car engine and activating the warm air blowers and air conditioning.

The air-con helps eliminate moisture from the air to prevent the car windows from fogging up, allowing the frozen windscreen to gradually clear up.

If you prefer not to wait inside the car for the defrosting process, you can utilize that time to remove ice or snow from the exterior of the vehicle.

It is crucial to avoid using cool, lukewarm, or hot water on the car windscreen, as it can lead to glass cracking due to rapid temperature changes.

The AA stresses the importance of using car heaters, air conditioning, and proper tools like a brush or de-icer to safely and efficiently clear frost from the frozen windscreen while allowing the car to warm up.
