“Watch Your Data: Top Apps Draining Your Monthly Allowance”

Share

Monitoring your data usage is crucial unless you have an unlimited plan, as adding extra data can be costly, and running out means losing access to essential services like WhatsApp, Google Maps, and email when not connected to Wi-Fi.

If you frequently exhaust your data allowance, there could be a straightforward explanation for it.

Recent data from TRG Datacenters indicates that people are consuming more data than ever before, with the average phone user now using over 11GB per month, a 40% increase from two years ago.

Unsurprisingly, applications, particularly those featuring video content, are the main data consumers.

TRG Datacenters has released a list of the top 10 apps that can quickly deplete your monthly data, with YouTube ranking at the top.

• Standard Definition (SD): Approximately 360MB per hour

• High Definition (HD – 720p): Around 720MB per hour

Following YouTube are platforms like Twitch, Snapchat, TikTok, Threads, and Netflix in terms of data consumption.

While it’s expected that streaming services are major data consumers, TRG Datacenters also points out that apps like YouTube continue to use data even when not actively in use.

According to TRG Datacenters, “YouTube is the most data-intensive mobile app, with over 90% of the data being consumed in the background.”

Disabling background data usage in app settings is a simple way to save data if you frequently run out.

Here are the top 10 data-consuming apps based on average user usage:
