Campaigners Call for Ofcom Investigation into Donald Trump Interview

Share

GB News’ favorable interview with Donald Trump is under scrutiny by campaigners who are calling for an investigation by Ofcom. The complaint, filed by campaign group 38 Degrees, follows a petition signed by over 65,000 individuals urging an examination into potential breaches of impartiality regulations during the interview.

Critics have expressed concern that the interviewer failed to challenge Trump on controversial statements, including his dismissal of climate change as a “hoax,” derogatory remarks about immigrants, and baseless claims about crime rates in London.

Matthew McGregor, the CEO of 38 Degrees, emphasized the public’s demand for a balanced investigation into the one-sided nature of the Donald Trump interview. McGregor highlighted the importance of holding broadcasters accountable for ensuring accuracy and avoiding the spread of misinformation, regardless of the interviewee’s status.

During the interview, Trump launched a verbal attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, falsely portraying the city as plagued by rising crime levels. In reality, statistics show a decrease in violent crimes leading to injuries across all London boroughs in the past year.

Trump’s controversial comments extended to labeling immigrants as “scum” and casting doubt on the validity of climate change. His inflammatory remarks targeted European leaders, warning against the potential detrimental effects of immigration policies.

The interview’s content has sparked public outrage and raised concerns about journalistic integrity and adherence to regulatory standards in broadcasting.
