“Tragic Food Poisoning Deaths Rock Italian Village”

Share

Tragedy struck in Italy as a woman and her 15-year-old daughter passed away following a suspected case of food poisoning from a festive meal. Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, and her daughter Sara Di Vita reportedly consumed fish, mussels, and mushrooms during their Christmas dinner in Pietracatella. The duo developed fulminant hepatitis, resulting in liver failure.

After the meal, both mother and daughter experienced symptoms such as nausea and abdominal pain. Sara sought medical help but tragically succumbed to the illness at Cardarelli Hospital. Antonella, upon showing similar symptoms, was also hospitalized but unfortunately could not be saved despite medical efforts.

Health officials at Cardarelli Hospital expressed shock at the rapid deterioration of their condition, leading to their untimely deaths. The father of the family, Ganni Di Vita, also fell ill and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.

In a bid to uncover the source of contamination, authorities collected food samples from the household for analysis. The public prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation, including autopsies to determine the cause of death.

The community is mourning the tragic loss, with the village mayor expressing condolences and solidarity with the affected family. Villagers gathered for a vigil at the hospital, and local Christmas events were canceled as a mark of respect.

The investigation, overseen by Prosecutor Nicola D’Angelo, aims to determine any negligence that may have led to the incident and prevent similar tragedies in the future. Five doctors from Cardarelli Hospital in Campobasso are currently under scrutiny in connection with the case.
