A teenager in Florida pleaded for her life after witnessing her stepfather commit a fatal act against her mother. Despite being shot in the face, the brave 13-year-old survived the harrowing incident.
The young girl, whose name has not been released, is currently in critical but stable condition at a hospital, as confirmed by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. She remains conscious and able to communicate, providing details of the tragic night to the sheriff.
During a press conference, Sheriff Judd shared that the girl recounted how she begged her stepfather not to harm her after witnessing him shoot her mother. Despite her pleas, she was also shot by him.
The stepfather, Jason Kenney, aged 47, tragically took his own life shortly before Christmas, according to authorities. The incident occurred following an argument that escalated quickly between Jason and his wife, Crystal Kenney, leading to a fatal outcome.
Upon police arrival at the scene, it was discovered that Crystal had been fatally shot, while the teenage girl was found injured from being shot twice. Miraculously, the bullet that struck her face managed to exit through the top of her head, saving her life in what was described as a “Christmas miracle” by Sheriff Judd.
The couple’s infant daughter was unharmed during the attack. Jason fled the scene and later took his own life in a shed at his father’s property. The children, now orphaned, have been placed under the care of their maternal grandparents.
Despite the tragic events, the surviving children are safe and supported by their extended family during this difficult time.
