“UK Acquires Cutting-Edge Mobile Artillery: RCH 155 Unveiled”

The UK has recently acquired a cutting-edge weapon system capable of firing eight rounds per minute while on the move at speeds of up to 100km/h.

Known as the RCH 155, this innovative weapon is mounted on a BOXER armored vehicle and has a range of 70km. It was developed under a £52 million contract between the UK and Germany to enhance British military capabilities, with insights drawn from the conflict in Ukraine.

The RCH 155 boasts impressive features, including the ability to travel 700km without refueling, equivalent to a journey from Cornwall to Newcastle. Unlike traditional artillery that requires setup before firing, this weapon can shoot while in motion, making it agile and difficult for adversaries to target. Operated by just two crew members due to advanced automation, it can engage targets from any direction without needing to reposition.

Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, Luke Pollard MP, highlighted the significance of this new artillery system, emphasizing its capacity to fire on the move and hit distant targets efficiently. The lessons learned from Ukraine have influenced the development of this weapon, aligning with the Strategic Defence Review objectives.

Currently, soldiers operate 14 Archer artillery systems as interim replacements for the AS90 guns provided to Ukraine. The collaborative effort between the UK and Germany ensures shared test data and facilities, guaranteeing both nations access to top-notch equipment.

Edward Cutts, Senior Responsible Owner of Mobile Fires in the Army, praised the joint demonstrator program as a testament to the strong partnership between the two countries. The RCH 155 represents a significant advancement in mobile artillery, combining firepower with rapid repositioning capabilities. This collaboration not only delivers cutting-edge technology to British soldiers but also enhances interoperability between UK and German forces, crucial for NATO’s collective defense.

In a recent development, Defence Secretary John Healey reassured Vladimir Putin that the UK was prepared to defend Ukraine by swiftly mobilizing troops upon the signing of a peace agreement. This commitment comes amid heightened security concerns, leading to the launch of a new military intelligence service to address evolving threats such as cyber-attacks and global disruptions.
