Hospital staff at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi encountered a highly unusual medical case recently. A 31-year-old man sought medical attention due to intense abdominal pain, which was later revealed to be caused by a live eel he had inserted into his anus for stimulation earlier that day.
Upon examination, imaging tests showed the eel’s skeleton inside the man’s abdominal cavity. A team of medical experts had to perform emergency surgery to remove the eel after discovering that the man had also inserted a large lemon, obstructing access to the eel through the anus.
During the surgery, the medical team found the live eel, measuring approximately 65 cm in length and 10 cm in circumference, inside the man’s body. The eel had caused damage by biting through the patient’s rectum and colon to escape into the abdominal cavity, as reported by Le Nhat Huy, vice director of the Department of Colorectal and Perineal Surgery.
After successfully removing both the eel and the lemon, the man underwent further examinations to ensure no other foreign objects were hidden in his body before being stitched up. This incident follows a similar bizarre case in Jaipur, India, where doctors removed a watch, iron fragments, nuts, and bolts from a man’s digestive system after he complained of severe stomach pain.
Additionally, a woman in Taipei, Taiwan, had a fountain pen lodged in her stomach, causing debilitating pain and eating difficulties. The pen was removed through surgery, preventing potential life-threatening complications.
