“UK Residents Anticipate Daylight Increase as Clocks Spring Forward”

Share

After enduring a lengthy winter, many are eagerly anticipating the forthcoming increase in daylight as we progress through 2026. As the clocks move forward in a little over nine weeks, the sunset will occur earlier.

Conversely, this change also means that the sunrise will be later. Since the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2025, the days have been gradually lengthening. Before the time change, several regions in the UK will experience a sunrise before 6am, but this will temporarily shift post the clock adjustment.

Examining the easternmost part of the UK, specifically Ness Point in Lowestoft, it is projected to witness pre-6am sunrises around March 19, before the daylight saving adjustment on March 29. Predictions indicate that London will likely see its initial pre-6am sunrise around March 22, with Edinburgh and Cardiff following suit around March 26 and March 28, respectively. Following the commencement of British Summer Time (BST), residents in Ness Point will have to wait until approximately April 14 to witness the sun rising before 6am once again.

Subsequently, Londoners can expect this occurrence around April 18, Cardiff around April 24, and Edinburgh around April 19. The clock adjustment is scheduled for 1am on Sunday, March 29 this year, resulting in extended daylight hours in the evenings and reduced morning daylight.
