Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his approval of Brooks Koepka’s comeback to the PGA Tour and mentioned that LIV Golf has not shown interest in him during this postseason. Koepka recently left the Saudi-backed tour and swiftly returned to the PGA Tour, marking his comeback at the Farmers Insurance Open next week, a move that is seen as beneficial for the PGA Tour.
The pressure is now on LIV Golf to retain their other prominent stars, as Patrick Reed has hinted at a potential return to the PGA Tour. Fleetwood, currently ranked world No.3, praised the PGA Tour for its prestigious events and significant prize money, emphasizing his gratitude for being able to compete at such a high level.
Regarding Koepka’s return, Fleetwood stated, “It’s a positive development for the PGA Tour.” He acknowledged the uncertainty of the future but highlighted the importance of setting goals and aspirations in pursuing one’s dreams in the game of golf.
LIV Golf, funded by Newcastle’s owners, has made substantial investments in previous seasons, including lucrative deals with Koepka and Rahm. This year, the signings have been less high-profile, with new additions such as Victor Perez, Laurie Canter, and others. Fleetwood, a Ryder Cup star, disclosed that LIV Golf did not approach him during the current postseason, hinting at the competitive landscape for securing top players.
Shane Lowry, Fleetwood’s Ryder Cup teammate, commended Koepka for his decision to return to the PGA Tour swiftly, mentioning the positive impact it will have on the tour’s smaller events. Lowry expressed his focus on his own game and shrugged off concerns about other players’ decisions, emphasizing his determination to perform well in any tournament he chooses to participate in.
