Recent predictions indicate that a significant portion of England may experience nearly 12 inches of snow, accompanied by blizzard conditions in the coming days.
The upcoming week is expected to see widespread snow coverage across the country, with temperatures plummeting as low as -4C. A weather advisory for snow and ice has been issued for New Year’s Day and Friday.
New weather maps, sourced from WXCharts, suggest that blizzard-like conditions could impact the UK once again in the middle of the following week. Projections for Wednesday, January 7, indicate snowfall starting on elevated terrain and then spreading extensively, gradually intensifying overnight into Thursday.
Forecasts indicate that snow depths could reach up to 10.6 inches over higher altitudes, with the Lake District likely to experience the deepest accumulations, while the South West may escape significant snowfall.
By Thursday, January 8, data suggests that various regions in England, including Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Preston, Leeds, York, and Manchester, could witness substantial snowfall with depths in double digits in centimeters.
Additionally, other parts of the UK are expected to see snow settling to a few centimeters at minimum, with locations as far south as Hastings projected to receive one to two centimeters of snow accumulation.
The Met Office has issued warnings of snowy conditions later this week, stating, “Showers are likely to transition to snow on Thursday with a strong northerly wind developing. Snow accumulations are expected, with higher routes initially impacted, but lower areas may also see accumulation by Friday morning, ranging from 2 to 10 cm, with higher elevations possibly receiving up to 20 cm or more.”
An updated Yellow snow and ice warning has been issued by the Met Office for several regions across the UK, including Central, Tayside and Fife, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland, and Strathclyde, for Thursday and Friday.
