The police are investigating the death of a streamer who is believed to have died from an overdose after accepting a challenge involving drugs online.
Sergio Jimenez, aged 37, reportedly consumed a bottle of whisky and snorted six grams of cocaine within a span of three hours. He was discovered in a praying position on his bed at his residence in Barcelona, Spain.
During the incident, a webcam was left active, and the livestream continued. Allegedly, a group of paid private viewers tuned in to watch the New Year’s Eve online challenge unfold.
Family members of Mr. Jimenez stated that some viewers asked questions like “Are you sleeping off a hangover?” and “Haven’t you finished the whisky yet?”
Authorities have launched an investigation into what is believed to be the first fatality resulting from an extreme online challenge in Spain. The possibility of criminal conduct linked to “incitement to risky behavior” is being considered.
Sergio’s mother, Teresa, shared with a local newspaper that her son had been creating such videos, as warned by his brother Jordi. She recounted an unsettling encounter where she found Sergio in a prayer-like posture on his bed.
Tragically, Sergio had reportedly passed away before emergency services could be alerted. His brother Daniel described finding him with alcohol, energy drinks, and cocaine nearby, with the livestream still active with viewers commenting on his condition.
Teresa informed the police that she had advised her son against consuming alcohol due to his medication for psychiatric issues, which was visible on his table before the online challenge.
Simon Perez, known for his online presence and drug-related activities, suggested that Sergio might have been trying to imitate him. Perez expressed his sorrow over the incident in a YouTube video, emphasizing the dangers of drug consumption.
In a separate case, Raphael Graven, also known as Jean Pormanove, was found deceased by authorities after engaging in risky online behavior. The Frenchman was discovered at his residence in Contes, Alpes-Maritimes, France, following a period of extreme activities and substance abuse.
