A group of burglars in Germany pulled off a daring heist at a bank in Gelsenkirchen by drilling through a wall to access safe deposit boxes containing cash, gold, and jewelry worth £25million. The method used by the gang bore resemblances to the infamous Hatton Garden heist in London, where elderly criminals stole £16million a decade ago using a similar technique.
The meticulous planning and execution of the German break-in drew comparisons to the Hollywood movie “Ocean’s Eleven” by a police spokesperson, highlighting the level of skill and organization involved. The thieves, taking advantage of the Christmas holidays, spent several days breaking into over 3,000 safe deposit boxes within the bank premises.
The crime went undetected until a fire alarm was triggered early on a Monday morning, revealing the extent of the robbery. The gang is suspected to have gained entry through a hole in an adjacent indoor car park and made a swift getaway in a stolen black Audi RS 6, later found abandoned 120 miles away from the scene.
