Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed her frustration with receiving unwanted beauty advice in a recent Instagram post. Frederiksen, 48, shared that upon returning from a trip to Ukraine, where she experienced air raid sirens amidst the ongoing conflict, she was greeted with a message from a plastic surgeon offering to fix a perceived flaw on her nose.
She revealed that she has received numerous messages critiquing her appearance over the years, including remarks about her teeth, hair, and a supposed ‘wart’ on her nose, along with suggestions for Botox. Frederiksen posted a screenshot of the plastic surgeon’s offer without revealing his identity and responded by affirming her contentment with her body, asserting that she does not require a male plastic surgeon’s opinion on it.
As a Social Democrat and Denmark’s second female prime minister serving her third term, Frederiksen is one of Europe’s most seasoned leaders, having led the country since mid-2019. She is known for her strong stance against U.S. President Donald Trump’s interests in Greenland and her support for Ukraine amid Russia’s aggressive actions.
Emphasizing that she respects others’ appearances, Frederiksen stated on Instagram that she is comfortable with her body as she approaches 50. She urged individuals reaching out to her to engage in more meaningful discussions rather than focusing on superficial aspects like her nose.
The prime minister admitted feeling indignant about the unsolicited beauty advice, expressing solidarity with those who deal with societal pressures regarding physical appearance. She encouraged a shift towards discussions of substance rather than superficial critiques.
