Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding areas continued for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruptions to daily life with incessant air raid sirens. The strikes on Monday resulted in injuries to four individuals and damage to various structures in the Kyiv region, as reported by regional Gov. Tymur Tkachenko via Telegram.
The region has been plagued by swarms of drones, many of which are jet-powered, leading to casualties, property damage, and disruptions. A particularly devastating attack on an ammunition depot on Friday resulted in explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy highlighted the strategic aim of the ongoing drone attacks, emphasizing that Russia has launched nearly 1,500 drones at Ukraine in just four days, with over half of them being jet-powered. In another incident, a Russian strike caused a fire at a terminal operated by Nova Poshta, a private courier service, in the Odesa region.
Moreover, an industrial business in the city of Kryvyi Rih was targeted by a jet-powered drone attack, injuring two individuals according to local officials. Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their attacks on economic targets, focusing on major e-commerce entities and retailers. Russia specifically targeted warehouses belonging to top supermarket chains, postal services, and home-goods stores in Ukraine.
In retaliation, Ukraine also conducted attacks on Russian infrastructure, including a drone strike on a logistics hub in Yekaterinburg, as confirmed by the local governor.
As a result of the intensified air raids, residents of Kyiv have been severely impacted, with the disruptions halting the metro service and causing significant disturbances to daily routines. Passengers were left stranded on platforms as train services were temporarily halted during the alerts, affecting individuals like Yulianna Oliynyk, a nurse and psychologist, who was attempting to reach a school with her two sons amid the chaos.
The ongoing air raid alerts have forced families to seek refuge and reevaluate their daily routines, with many individuals facing uncertainty and challenges in navigating the disruptions caused by the drone attacks.
