Jenny Simpson, a world champion runner, recently shared that a rare heart condition led to her cardiac arrest during a race in June, ultimately ending her running career. In an Instagram post, the 39-year-old disclosed being diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), a condition that resulted in dangerous heart rhythms leading to her heart stopping. Due to this diagnosis, Simpson acknowledged the risk associated with returning to running, stating that this chapter of her life has closed, but she remains optimistic about her future.

The incident occurred while Simpson was guiding a group of girls in a mile run at an event in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she suddenly collapsed. Prompt CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator were crucial in stabilizing her before she was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Despite the ordeal, Simpson expressed gratitude for being alive and urged well-wishers to focus on their happiness that she survived rather than expressing sympathy.

Jenny Simpson’s remarkable running career spanned approximately a decade starting in 2007, during which she dominated as America’s top women’s 1,500-meter runner. Her achievements include winning world championships in 2011, securing two second-place finishes, and claiming an Olympic bronze medal in Rio in 2016.
