A 13-year-old teenager in Cape Breton successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada by running a hotdog stand and receiving generous donations. This fundraising effort, led by Jake Campbell and his family, exceeded their previous year’s achievement of $3,000. Supplies for the hotdog stand were provided by No Frills and Wonder Bread.
The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where in addition to hotdog sales, people also contributed cash donations. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer for Make-A-Wish Canada, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support in Sydney.
Last year, when the Campbell family fundraised, Jake Campbell received an award in memory of a wish child who had passed away. This recognition inspired him to aim higher this year, leading to the substantial amount raised. The funds will be used to fulfill the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia on the foundation’s list.
Make-A-Wish Canada’s past wishes have included creating accessible spaces for children to enjoy the outdoors more and providing family trips. Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting the foundation, as it not only benefits the children but also their families. He expressed optimism for future fundraising endeavors.
