Two individuals have been taken into custody following the fatal stabbing of a popular ice cream vendor in front of his van last night.
According to the Metropolitan Police, they responded to a stabbing incident in Monks Park, Wembley, at approximately 6.10 pm on Tuesday. A 38-year-old man sustained stab wounds and despite treatment by the London Ambulance Service, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The victim’s family has been notified.
A 26-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of murder early Wednesday morning, while a 31-year-old woman was arrested at the scene for conspiracy to murder, as confirmed by the police. Both suspects are currently in police custody.
Local resident Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, residing in the vicinity of Tokyngton Avenue, revealed that he was childhood friends with the deceased ice cream seller. Butt mentioned that the victim, known for his ice cream van adorned with a large teddy bear, was attacked and fatally stabbed by an unidentified individual wearing a grey hoodie.
The witness further disclosed that the victim, a married man with a young daughter, was well-known in the community. Another witness, who opted to remain anonymous, observed the ice cream van being towed away from the scene early Wednesday morning. The police had set up a cordon in Monks Park and forensic activities were underway within the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones and assured ongoing efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The police urged anyone with information to come forward and encouraged residents to review any doorbell or camera footage in the vicinity of Monks Park for potential leads.
