Tesco is set to distribute numerous complimentary Christmas trees for a single day only. These trees, deemed “wonky,” possess imperfections such as uneven branches or a slight lean, making them unsuitable for regular sale. However, the supermarket plans to offer them at no cost on Saturday, December 6, in specific stores, urging recipients to consider contributing to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be available at various Tesco locations, including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. Distribution will commence at 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. Comparable trees elsewhere typically start at £13.99 from Aldi and £14.99 from Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized embracing the imperfect charm of these trees, noting that imperfections can enhance the holiday spirit. A recent survey commissioned by Tesco revealed that a significant portion of Brits schedule their tree decorating for the second weekend of December. The survey further indicated that the majority of respondents value the imperfect moments that make the Christmas season special.
In another initiative, Tesco announced a promotion offering Clubcard members double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December. This promotion covers all third-party gift cards available in Tesco stores, with points automatically credited to the Clubcard account. With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, Tesco rewards loyalty across various purchases, providing points for groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile services, Tesco credit card transactions, and Clubcard Pay+ debit card usage. Accumulated points can be redeemed for Clubcard vouchers, starting at 150 points for a £1.50 voucher.
By continuing to innovate and engage customers through initiatives like the free tree giveaway and loyalty rewards, Tesco aims to enhance the holiday experience for shoppers while supporting charitable causes.
