“Tourists Alerted to Storm Francis in Canary Islands”

Tourists preparing for vacations in the Canary Islands have been alerted to Storm Francis, which was expected to bring strong winds, heavy thunderstorms, and even snowfall to the region.

Despite these warnings, a local resident in Lanzarote, known as Mr. Travelon, expressed surprise at the alerts. He posted a TikTok video showcasing the current weather conditions on the island, which contradicted the anticipated severe weather.

In the video, Mr. Travelon, wearing sunglasses and a fleece but not a heavy winter coat, stood on the beach under clear skies questioning the absence of Storm Francis in Lanzarote.

Although there were signs of a medium storm approaching with breezy conditions and choppy seas, the actual weather was milder than expected, with temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius.

The resident took viewers on a visual tour of Lanzarote on January 2, noting the breezy conditions and the potential for rain as dark clouds loomed. While the climate in Lanzarote seemed more favorable compared to the UK, the situation could change rapidly.

There is a possibility that Storm Francis might still hit later, prompting continued caution for tourists in the coming days. The Spanish meteorological agency AEMET advised travelers to stay updated on weather forecasts due to the evolving situation and potential impact on outdoor activities.

AEMET warned of southwesterly winds with strong gusts, heavy thunderstorms moving from west to east, and potential snowfall in certain areas of the Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula. The agency highlighted the need for vigilance as weather conditions were expected to fluctuate in the following days.
