Share

The M2 motorway was closed this afternoon due to a fatal accident involving a woman in her twenties. The closure affected all westbound traffic between Junction 5, Stockbury Interchange (Maidstone, Sheerness A249; The West (M20, M25)), and Junction 4, Brooms Wood Interchange (Gillingham A278). The woman’s vehicle collided with a barrier and overturned, leading to her tragic death.

Emergency services, including Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and National Highways traffic officers, responded to the scene. The victim, a woman in her twenties from Faversham, was pronounced dead at the accident site after her black Volkswagen T-Roc collided with the central reservation and flipped over.

The closure was expected to last until approximately 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm, causing delays of 15 minutes for traffic flow, with two lanes closed. National Highways provided diversions to manage the traffic situation effectively.

The accident, reported around 12:58 pm, involved a single vehicle hitting the central reservation barrier and overturning. Kent Police led the incident response, supported by emergency services, while National Highways traffic officers managed traffic flow and closures.

Due to the severity of the crash, Kent Police initiated detailed collision investigations, leading to the closure remaining in place throughout the afternoon. Updates on the closure and traffic situation were provided through social media and traffic monitoring systems.

Road users were advised to follow diversion signs and exercise caution in the area affected by the incident, causing significant delays and congestion on the M2 London-bound carriageway between junctions 4 and 5. Kent Police urged patience from drivers as investigations continued at the accident scene.
