Father of Two Dies in E-Scooter Crash

A man in his 40s named Alan Walsh tragically lost his life following a collision between his e-scooter and a car in Waterford, Republic of Ireland, on Christmas Day. The incident occurred at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road around 11am. Mr. Walsh, a father of two from St John’s Park, Waterford city, was taken to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) after the crash but was pronounced dead later. The driver of the car, an 80-year-old man, sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening and was also hospitalized at UHW. According to the Irish Mirror, no other injuries were reported by Gardaí.

Mr. Walsh, who was employed at O’Sullivans Bar and Restaurant, is survived by his son Sean, daughter Ava, and his grieving family members including his mother Esther, father Tommy, siblings Thomas, Mark, Lorraine, Karen, and Sarah, as well as other extended family, friends, and neighbors. A mourner expressed fond memories of Mr. Walsh, reminiscing about the good times shared.

The street where the accident occurred was closed for an extended period to allow forensic collision experts to investigate the scene thoroughly. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, especially motorists with potential footage, such as dash-cam recordings, who were in the vicinity of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10:45am and 11:15am on December 25, to come forward. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact Waterford Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any garda station.

The Garda investigation into the incident is ongoing.
