Gazza is potentially gearing up for a pool match against George Clooney at The Dunston Excelsior club. The British celebrity shared that he had a chat with the Hollywood actor through a mutual acquaintance.
A former bodyguard of the English football icon during his time at Lazio in Italy three decades ago now works for Clooney. The actor, residing near Lake Como, engaged in a phone conversation with Gazza. Over the years, Gazza has recounted interactions with various celebrities such as Dustin Hoffman, Robbie Williams, Princess Diana, and Mike Tyson.
During an interview promoting his book ‘Eight’, Gazza, aged 58, disclosed to the Mirror, “George Clooney expressed interest in playing pool at Dunston Excelsior. But the challenge is still pending.”
He detailed that his former Italian bodyguard had crossed paths with Clooney. Gazza reminisced, “While in London, Johnny contacted me and mentioned someone wanted to speak with me. When I inquired, he revealed it was George Clooney.” Clooney apparently mentioned, “I’ve heard you’re a skilled pool player. I plan to visit your local spot to challenge you.” Gazza, a resident of Dunston in Gateshead, even played pool with a son of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi back in 2000.
Moreover, Gazza shared an incident where he met Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, in Gateshead in 2008. Tyson visited Gazza at his family home, leading to an unexpected outing for Gazza’s birthday. Gazza highlighted Tyson’s willingness to support him following his own boxing career challenges.
Despite his alcohol addiction, Gazza’s family refrains from drinking during gatherings to support him. He regularly travels from Dorset to Gateshead to meet his family, exchange gifts, and then returns to Dorset. Gazza humorously mentioned receiving familiar gifts like slippers, a dressing gown, wine gums, and Brut aftershave from his family.
In addition, Gazza shared that his family playfully gifts him aftershave due to his past advertising for the product. He reciprocates by giving his family cash presents.
