Joanna Lumley, a beloved actress with a television career spanning more than six decades, is set to grace our screens tonight in the Christmas special of Amandaland. At 79 years old, Lumley recently expressed how the awareness of time passing fuels her energy and contemplation of her mortality. Despite acknowledging the departure of close friends and her impending time limit, she remains determined not to waste a moment of her life on Earth.
In the comedy series Amandaland, a spin-off of the acclaimed sitcom Motherland produced for BBC, Lumley showcased her talent this year. The Christmas special will air on BBC One at 9.15pm tonight, with season two scheduled for release in 2026. Additionally, she appeared in the Netflix drama Fool Me Once and a three-part ITV travel documentary exploring Europe’s Danube River.
While Lumley has enjoyed success in her acting career, including roles in The New Avengers, Sapphire & Steel, Absolutely Fabulous, Finding Alice, and Motherland, she has faced challenges due to prosopagnosia, a condition making it difficult to recognize faces. Despite this, she remains resilient. The NHS explains that managing prosopagnosia involves recognizing unique features as there is no known cure for the condition.
Joanna Lumley’s personal life is filled with joy as she is married to conductor Stephen Barlow and has a fulfilling family life with her son Jamie and two grandchildren, Alice and Emily.
