“Backpacker Christmas Party Leaves Coogee Beach Trashed”

Share

A beach in Sydney, Coogee, was left in a messy state after a large Christmas celebration organized by backpackers. Locals were outraged by the heaps of trash left behind, with some criticizing the individuals who transformed the picturesque area into a makeshift restroom during the festivities.

The Randwick Council had to mobilize a significant cleanup effort following the event. The cleanup operation, involving lifeguards, rangers, and waste management staff, was commended by the mayor for their hard work on Christmas Day. Over 20 tons of rubbish were collected and disposed of in four truckloads.

The cleanup crew utilized various tools like beach rakes, sweepers, and high-pressure hoses to clear the litter, clean restrooms, and restore the beach, pathways, and grassy areas. While many attendees behaved responsibly, there were instances of heavy littering and public urination that marred the event.

Despite some defending the partygoers, others were shocked by the lack of respect shown to the beloved beach. One individual expressed gratitude for the cleanup efforts, lamenting the mistreatment of the beautiful location. On the contrary, a different perspective was shared by someone who appreciated the festive spirit and downplayed the aftermath, thanking the cleanup crew and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

The incident sparked a debate online, with differing opinions on who should be responsible for the cleanup. While some called for accountability from those who caused the mess, others emphasized the importance of enjoying festivities, especially in challenging times.
