In a late-night announcement, former President Donald Trump revealed plans to escalate mass deportations of legal immigrants in response to the recent shooting incident in Washington DC. The attack, allegedly carried out by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, prompted Trump to extend the crackdown beyond the immediate suspects to include migrant communities he perceives as detrimental to the nation. Trump emphasized the need for “REVERSE MIGRATION” to address the situation, expressing Thanksgiving wishes to all except those who oppose American values. He imposed a temporary halt on migration from specific regions, aiming to expel individuals deemed unproductive or lacking loyalty to the United States.
Under the new measures, federal benefits for non-citizens will be terminated, and even citizens could face status revocation if they disrupt domestic peace. Trump also outlined an expanded deportation strategy targeting any foreign national considered a burden, security threat, or incompatible with Western norms. He clarified that even individuals with permanent residency status, such as green card holders, would not be exempt from the deportation initiative.
Despite the shooting being linked to an Afghan national, Trump shifted blame towards the Somali community in Minnesota during his remarks on Truth Social. He disparaged Governor Tim Walz for allegedly allowing Somalis to dominate the state, a claim refuted by demographic data showing their minority presence in Minnesota. Trump launched derogatory attacks on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, questioning her citizenship and background, despite her legal entry and naturalization process.
During a video conference with troops, Trump made baseless accusations against Somalis, alleging financial exploitation and criticizing US aid to Somalia. He dismissed factual corrections regarding the vetting process for Afghan refugees and asylum seekers, emphasizing his intent to remove them from the country. Trump’s administration granted asylum to the suspected shooter, evading accountability during the discussion.
Trump’s persistent false claims about illegal immigration under President Biden’s tenure continue to circulate, with exaggerated figures of 20 million illicit entries. While citing census data on the foreign-born population, he misrepresents statistics to support his narrative of mass illegal immigration. Trump’s unfounded rhetoric aims to fuel anti-immigrant sentiment and deflect attention from factual scrutiny.
