The inaugural taskforce meeting, held at the British Science Association in London, brought together prominent industry figures, including Francesca Carlesi from Revolut, Dr. Hayaatun Sillem from the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Allison Kirkby from BT Group.
Statistics reveal a significant gender gap in computer science degrees, with men outnumbering women by a ratio of four to one. Women are less inclined to pursue careers in tech, remain in the sector, or ascend to leadership roles. This trend results in an annual economic loss estimated at £2–£3.5 billion due to women exiting the tech industry.
Ms. Kendall dismissed criticisms of diversity programs by individuals like Mr. Farage and pledged to enhance accessibility within the tech sector.
