Elderly Woman Dies in Christmas Day Assault, Suspect Apprehended

An elderly woman has passed away following a reported serious assault on Christmas Day, despite paramedics’ efforts to save her life.

The woman, aged in her 80s, died at a residence in Devizes, Wiltshire. Authorities have apprehended a 63-year-old woman, described as “acquainted with the victim,” on suspicion of murder. Law enforcement has asserted that no other individuals are being sought in connection with the incident, and investigations are actively seeking the deceased woman’s next of kin.

The 63-year-old suspect was transported to a medical facility and treated for injuries not deemed life-threatening. Police responded to a call regarding an assault on Keepers Road in Devizes at 8:10 am today, with a cordon expected to remain in place throughout Christmas Day.

Detective Inspector Alan Smith, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, expressed, “This is a tragic event where an elderly woman lost her life on Christmas Day. We have detained a woman known to the victim, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter. A crime scene has been established at the residence, and an urgent inquiry is underway, including door-to-door interviews.”

Smith added, “Residents can anticipate heightened police presence in the upcoming days. If you have any concerns or information, please do not hesitate to approach one of our officers.”
