“Act Now: Windows 10 Support Ending Oct 14”

Share

Windows 10 users have only one week left to ensure their devices are secure as Microsoft is ending free support for the operating system on October 14. Users are urged to upgrade to Windows 11 or opt for Extended Security Updates to safeguard their PCs.

Research indicates that about 21 million individuals in the UK still rely on Windows 10, exposing them to potential risks from cyber threats once support ends. Alarmingly, a quarter of Windows 10 users plan to continue using the outdated OS post-support discontinuation.

Following the cessation of free support, Microsoft will no longer issue security updates or crucial patches for Windows 10, leaving devices vulnerable to exploitation by hackers and cybercriminals.

Consumer advocate Which? emphasizes the importance of immediate action to maintain device security. Lisa Barber, Editor of Which? Tech, highlights the necessity for Windows users to identify their OS version and make necessary upgrades to avoid susceptibility to cyber threats.

For Windows 10 users, transitioning to Windows 11, if compatible, is recommended. Alternatively, opting for the free one-year Windows 10 extension through the Extended Security Updates program provides a temporary safety net while users explore long-term solutions such as switching to a different OS or purchasing a new device.

Users must actively enroll in the one-year extension program to benefit from continued security support. Additionally, considering the disposal or repurposing of outdated devices when upgrading to new systems is advised.
