Nigerian police are set to charge Anthony Joshua’s driver for ‘reckless driving’ following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of the boxer’s close associates. The driver, a 47-year-old member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, is expected to face charges within the next 48 hours, as reported by The Daily Mail.

After being treated and discharged from a hospital in Lagos on New Year’s Eve, the driver was taken to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, where the accident occurred. He underwent several hours of questioning and provided an official statement detailing the events leading up to the crash, which resulted in the deaths of Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s dear friends.

Following his release from the hospital, Joshua, alongside his mother, paid their respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home before their repatriation to the UK. The driver, now in stable condition, was questioned by authorities and is expected to face charges for reckless driving in the coming days.

The incident occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck. The truck driver, who fled the scene, has been declared wanted by the police. Investigations suggest that overspeeding and a burst front tire contributed to the crash, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.

In a statement, Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom, Joshua’s promotional company, expressed his condolences for Ghami and Ayodele, emphasizing their impact and legacy. Meanwhile, Sky has announced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering a substantial reduction in price and an increased number of live matches for the upcoming season.
