Apple is set to launch its latest operating system, iOS 26, today, bringing a host of new features to iPhone users. The update includes a refreshed Liquid Glass design, an enhanced lock screen, live translation capabilities for travelers, and improved spam protection to block unwanted calls.
iOS 26 also introduces upgrades to Messages, Mail, Photos, and Maps, with the latter now able to recognize users’ preferred routes. While the exact release time is undisclosed by Apple, previous patterns suggest it could be around 6pm BST.
To download iOS 26, users are advised to connect to Wi-Fi due to the expected large file size. Once available, the update can be accessed through Settings > General > Software Update. However, with high demand expected, installation may take longer, prompting some to consider updating in the morning.
Notably, not all iPhone models are compatible with iOS 26, with the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR losing support for the latest updates. The full list of compatible models includes various iPhone versions from 11 to 16, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later).
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, highlighted the new design and feature enhancements in iOS 26, aiming to make the iPhone experience more personalized and efficient for users. The update integrates Apple Intelligence capabilities to streamline tasks and improve user interactions across the system.
