A man has been arrested on charges of murder after a man was allegedly stabbed on New Year’s Eve. Anthony Junior Murray, a 25-year-old resident of Tarn Drive in Bury, has been accused of murder and possessing a bladed weapon, as confirmed by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in a recent statement. Mr. Murray is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear before Manchester Magistrates Court today.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Joe Burton in court documents, tragically passed away at the scene. The GMP stated that the investigation is ongoing.
Police cordoned off a section of Tarn Drive, where a forensic tent has been set up for evidence collection.
A woman in her twenties was taken into custody on suspicion of murder but has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The GMP is seeking information from the public regarding the incident and has encouraged individuals to reach out via 101 or the GMP website’s Live Chat feature, referencing log 3529 dated December 31, 2025. The police have requested any CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the vicinity.
