‘Beast from the East’ Set to Blanket UK in Snow

A forthcoming weather event dubbed the ‘Beast from the East’ is anticipated to bring additional snowfall to the United Kingdom, as per weather maps.

The GFS weather model on February 8 indicates the formation of a significant snowmass to the east of Britain. While initial snowfall in the northern regions of England and Scotland is expected to be light, the maps suggest a potential convergence of this weather system with another front moving from the south, resulting in widespread snow across the country.

The weather maps highlight intense snow showers in southern England by midnight on February 8, with a large purple area indicating snowfall in the Midlands, Wales, northern England, and Scotland. Cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, and Edinburgh are likely to be impacted.

By midday on February 9, the maps project snow reaching Northern Ireland, particularly affecting Belfast. The heaviest snowfall is predicted for the north-east of England at this time, with significant snow showers also forecast for the north-west.

Subsequent data suggests that by midnight, Northern Ireland will experience the most substantial snow accumulation, while southern, central, and north-eastern Scotland can anticipate snowfall throughout the day.

Snow coverage projections for 3 am on February 10 indicate settled snow in parts of southern England, the Midlands, Wales, Northern Ireland, the north of England, and Scotland.

According to snow depth charts, the Scottish Highlands might see up to 65cm (26 inches) of snow, the North Pennines could receive 16cm (six inches), Northern Ireland may get 8cm (three inches), and North Wales could expect around 4cm (1.5 inches) of snow.

The Met Office also forecasts potential snowfall at the beginning of February due to the interaction of weather systems from the north-east and south-west. Their outlook for February 1 to 10 anticipates spells of rain or showers, strong winds, and a mix of mild and cold conditions, with the possibility of wintry showers, including snow, especially in hilly areas.
