The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list due to concussion symptoms on Saturday. In his absence, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. To accommodate Cameron on the 40-man roster, Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, was designated for assignment.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo, while right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A. Guerrero sustained the concussion during Friday’s game against the Yankees after colliding with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a play at third base in the sixth inning.
Following the collision, Guerrero’s helmet came off, but he managed to score a run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo. Manager John Schneider noted that Guerrero experienced a headache after the game and still had symptoms the next day. Guerrero, who has a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, will be closely monitored as he recovers.
Tiedemann, who had a record of 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games across various minor league levels this season, will be looking to contribute to the team in Guerrero’s absence.
