The Canadian beach volleyball pair consisting of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held in their home country. The duo, who won the Olympic silver in 2024, came from behind to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing a spot on the podium.
Wilkerson showcased an impressive performance with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a vital serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The match experienced a temporary halt due to adverse weather conditions before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson faced a setback in the semifinals, losing to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta. Despite this loss dashing their hopes of a three-peat, the Canadian pair will battle Germany’s Müller and Tillmann for the bronze later in the day. Notably, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had previously clinched the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver in between at the Paris Games.
On the men’s side, Canadian duo Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a remarkable comeback to secure the bronze medal against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. After dropping the opening set, Schachter and Pickett rallied to win the next two sets, 28-26 and 15-12, marking their first podium finish together on home turf.
Their journey to the bronze included an upset victory over the top-ranked Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson before falling short in the semifinals to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein. The Canadians, ranked 39th, put up a strong fight but ultimately succumbed to the Brazilian pair in a closely contested match.
