Chelsea has decided to part ways with Enzo Maresca, who served as head coach for less than two years. Maresca, an Italian, took over the role at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 but faced increasing pressure due to Chelsea’s poor performance, managing only one win in their last seven top-flight matches.
The recent disappointment came when Chelsea drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, leading to Moises Caicedo receiving a yellow card that will prevent him from playing in the upcoming crucial match against Manchester City on Sunday. Earlier this month, Maresca made critical comments about the club’s management, signaling a strained relationship with the higher-ups, ultimately resulting in the decision to part company.
On New Year’s Day, Chelsea announced the separation, making them the latest Premier League club to make a managerial change. The club is now in search of a suitable replacement for Maresca.
In an official statement, Chelsea acknowledged Maresca’s achievements in leading the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup but stated that a change was necessary to improve the team’s performance in the ongoing season, with various competitions still at stake.
Following a 2-0 victory over Everton, Maresca expressed disappointment over the lack of support he felt from certain individuals within the club. His tenure was marked by internal strife, as he faced criticism from fans and even had to delegate post-match media responsibilities due to feeling unwell.
Chelsea currently sits fifth in the Premier League standings, just three points behind the top four. The club faces a busy schedule with several matches lined up, including a crucial period of five games in 13 days.
Various names have emerged as potential candidates to replace Maresca, including Liam Rosenior, who previously managed Hull City, and others like Cesc Fabregas, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, and Xavi.
Additionally, Sky has announced a price reduction for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering significant savings and an increased number of live matches across different leagues. Sky plans to broadcast over 215 live Premier League games in the upcoming season, providing fans with more opportunities to watch their favorite teams in action.
