A young postal worker shared details of a harrowing car accident she survived while en route to her mother’s residence on Christmas Day.
Dennie Butters, 23, was driving towards her mum’s house when her Dacia collided head-on with an Audi on Nottingham Road near Costock village in south Nottinghamshire. She recounted that the Audi was on the wrong side of the road as she negotiated a bend.
Recalling the incident, Ms. Butters mentioned that she recollected everything except the moment of impact. She found herself trapped in the wreckage, experiencing intense pain and a sensation akin to her back being torn apart.
Having recently relocated to Cotgrave and en route to Quorn in Leicestershire, Ms. Butters shared that she was informed it was miraculous she survived, as reported by Nottinghamshire Live. She emphasized the significance of wearing a seatbelt, citing that without it, her chances of survival would have been minimal.
Numerous bystanders, including an off-duty nurse and a police officer, rushed to assist Ms. Butters. Describing her predicament, she explained how the crash had left her in a painful and challenging position with her knees wedged beneath the steering wheel and her pelvis pinned under the seat edge.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and an air ambulance, promptly responded to the scene. Despite efforts to extricate her, firefighters had to resort to a hydraulic spreader to ultimately free Ms. Butters.
As a result of the accident, Ms. Butters sustained multiple injuries, including a broken wrist, torn abdominal muscles, cuts, bruises, and required knee surgery. The other driver involved reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Ms. Butters spent Christmas in the hospital with her family and currently awaits discharge from Queen’s Medical Centre. Reflecting on the event, she expressed how surreal it was for her family, especially considering her father’s death in a similar crash in 2008.
East Leake Fire Station detailed their involvement in freeing Ms. Butters and transferring her to paramedics for further care and transportation to QMC.
