A man tragically passed away after choking on a piece of panettone in front of his shocked family during a Christmas Eve meal. Giovanni Lopez was enjoying a slice of the Italian holiday bread when the incident occurred at his parents’ residence in Settimo Torinese, Piedmont.
Upon realizing the severity of the situation, family members promptly sought emergency assistance, leading to an ambulance arriving at the scene around 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Despite paramedics’ resuscitation efforts, Giovanni could not be revived as his airways were obstructed by a mixture of panettone and fresh mandarin pieces.
Subsequently, a medical examiner classified the death as accidental. Giovanni’s brother, Domenico, expressed his grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, reminiscing about Giovanni’s selfless and kind nature, hoping for his brother’s peaceful journey ahead.
Regrettably, this incident was not the only Christmas tragedy recently reported. In a corporate festive event in Moscow, Russia, a guest faced a life-threatening situation after consuming a cocktail prepared with liquid nitrogen during a show by an unnamed celebrity chef. The ingestion of liquid nitrogen before full evaporation led to the guest’s stomach rupture, necessitating emergency surgery.
Health professionals warned about the dangers of liquid nitrogen ingestion, emphasizing the potential for severe internal injuries or fatality. The rapid expansion of gas within the body from liquid nitrogen consumption can cause critical internal pressure, potentially resulting in stomach ruptures, internal bleeding, and organ damage.
