Crypto Fraudster and Wife Murdered in Dubai Desert Extortion

Share

Kidnappers allegedly subjected a convicted Russian cryptocurrency fraudster, Roman Novak, and his wife, Anna, to a horrifying ordeal before murdering them and burying their bodies in a desert. The couple, who went missing after being lured to Hatta, a resort near Dubai under the guise of potential investors, were found dismembered in a Dubai desert over a month later.

According to reports, the captors compelled Roman and Anna to witness each other’s suffering as part of an extortion scheme to access their cryptocurrency fortune. Despite surrendering the access codes to their cryptocurrency wallets, the wallets were found empty, leading to their brutal killings.

Following their deaths, the couple’s bodies were placed in thick polyethylene bags and treated with potent chemicals, presumably to accelerate decomposition and eliminate DNA evidence. Subsequently, they were buried in the desert near the Oman border, where their remains were discovered weeks later following a missing person report.

Allegedly, the couple may have been targeted by a gang aware of Roman’s successful crypto app, Fintopio, which raised significant investments for quick crypto transactions but faced allegations of fraud. The perpetrators likely aimed to seize the substantial funds associated with the app.

Russian authorities disclosed that the killers had accomplices who facilitated the abduction, provided transportation and accommodations for the victims, and disposed of incriminating evidence post-murder. Three individuals, Konstantin Shakht, a former police officer, and Russian citizens Yury Sharypov and Vladimir Dalekin, have been arrested in St. Petersburg and charged in connection with the case. While Sharypov and Dalekin pleaded guilty, Shakht refuted the accusations, and all three are currently in custody awaiting trial.
