British tennis player Dan Evans expressed frustration in 2022 over not being selected for a doubles match in the Davis Cup, hinting at quitting the team. Despite his successful history in the Davis Cup, Evans felt insulted by the decision and emphasized that his lack of regular doubles play should not have been a determining factor. He suggested that performance and game style should be prioritized over doubles rankings in team selections.

Evans voiced his disappointment to the press, stating his desire to contribute to the team and feeling overlooked for the doubles matches. Although he eventually got the chance to play doubles in a subsequent event and achieved victory, he later missed the 2023 finals due to an injury.

In a recent development, Britain faced a defeat against Japan in the opening qualifying round, causing them to miss the 2025 Davis Cup Finals. Meanwhile, Italy advanced to the semi-finals with players Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli leading the team to victory over Austria. Berrettini and Cobolli’s strong performances secured Italy’s spot in the next round, where they will face Belgium.
