A woman caused shock at a hospital by arriving with a deceased baby in a backpack. Medical staff estimated that the baby had been dead for several hours before being brought in at 11 am on Monday, December 22.
Reportedly in a distressed state and speaking unclearly, the woman initially claimed that a friend had given her the baby and asked her to dispose of it. However, upon discovering the situation, a senior nurse at the hospital decided to alert the police.
Following the incident, the 23-year-old woman was taken into custody as authorities initiated a homicide investigation. An autopsy was scheduled for the next day to determine the cause of death of the child.
Police suspect that the woman is the mother of the baby, believing she gave birth alone at home on Sunday, December 21, based on her medical examination and initial statements in police custody.
Initially thought to be stillborn, the baby was later confirmed to be full-term, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
The woman remains hospitalized post-incident. In another incident in Toulouse, a man reportedly attacked his two roommates with a knife early on Sunday, causing neck injuries. Both victims were hospitalized but were reported to be in stable condition.
Subsequently, a man was arrested in connection with the attack and was set to appear in court according to reports. Additionally, emergency services responded to a fire at a four-story building in Toulouse on Christmas Day. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but one person required emergency housing as a result.
Firefighters swiftly controlled the blaze using five fire engines and 19 firefighters, preventing further damage except for significant smoke damage in one of the flats.
