EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the increasing threat of scams in the UK. Latest figures reveal that millions of pounds are lost daily due to cybercriminals employing varying tactics to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive information.
The upgraded Scam Guard is now accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a monthly fee of £2, offering improved protection against fraudulent activities. Since its initial launch in 2024, the service has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts.
Powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine, the new Scam Guard features AI Triple-Lock Protection, consisting of Safe Email, Safe SMS, and Safe Web functionalities. Safe Email ensures round-the-clock proactive scam shielding for email accounts, while Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI to detect sophisticated scams in text messages, providing real-time protection. Additionally, Safe Web employs AI to safeguard users from online scams by blocking harmful websites preemptively.
Moreover, the upgrade introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to upload screenshots of suspicious content for instant evaluation. It also includes Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring to detect and alert users of any suspicious online activities promptly.
Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the importance of staying ahead of evolving fraud tactics. He highlighted EE’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures through industry collaborations, network-level controls, and a dedicated team of security experts. The updated Scam Guard service aims to offer customers an elevated level of protection against cyber threats.
