“Eland Cables Boosts Employee Pay Ahead of Holidays”

Eland Cables, a company specializing in electrical cables for major infrastructure projects, has taken a proactive step by implementing an early pay increase for its employees. This move has been well-received by the staff, who appreciate the additional income ahead of the holiday season.

The Real Living Wage, a voluntary pay standard for workers aged 18 and above employed by Living Wage Foundation signatories, is calculated based on the cost of essential items like food and clothing. Eland Cables has raised its hourly rate by 85p to £13.45, a 6.7% increase, and by 95p to £14.80 in London, a 6.9% rise, surpassing the minimum wage requirement.

Around 16,000 employers have committed to paying the Real Living Wage to their employees. While the deadline for implementing the higher rates is set for May 2026, Eland Cables has chosen to apply the increase early, benefiting employees like Ben, a 34-year-old father-of-two from Doncaster.

Ben expressed his gratitude for the timely pay raise, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on his family’s finances, especially as they approach the holiday season. He also highlighted his involvement in local charity work, underscoring the importance of giving back to the community.

Eland Cables’ executive director, JS Pelland, explained that the decision to advance the Real Living Wage reflects the company’s commitment to fairness, employee loyalty, and long-term prosperity. By prioritizing fair compensation, the company aims to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and overall performance.

Mr. Pelland emphasized the significance of treating employees well to foster loyalty and drive better outcomes for both the company and its workforce. With half of Eland Cables’ employees performing crucial operational roles, the company’s inclusive approach to benefits and wages has led to improved staff retention, reduced absenteeism, and increased productivity.
