“High-Pressure Weather Causes TV Signal Woes”

Share

Residents hoping to watch The 1% Club or Strictly Come Dancing may face difficulties this week. A persistent high-pressure system is lingering above the UK, causing signal disruptions for Freeview users. This unfavorable weather pattern is expected to impact TV reception, leading to viewing disturbances that could extend through the following week.

Freeview warned viewers nationwide about potential signal disruptions from Friday, October 10th, to Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, attributing the issue to the disruptive effects of high pressure on Freeview signals.

It may seem unusual, but the UK experiences periods of high pressure throughout the year, which can adversely affect TV signals.

According to the BBC, high-pressure systems can lead to two main problems: weaker signals due to the elevation of local transmitter signals and interference from distant transmitters.

With these weather conditions persisting until October 15th, Freeview customers are likely to face a frustrating period ahead. Despite the inconvenience, viewers are advised against adjusting their TV settings during this time.

To mitigate the disruptions, viewers with internet-connected TVs featuring Freeview Play can switch to online services instead of relying on aerial signals. Additionally, a new alternative called Freely, developed by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, delivers content via broadband to avoid weather-related disruptions, offering access to over 40 channels with live and on-demand content.

For those seeking uninterrupted viewing experiences, services like Sky Glass TVs and Stream box by Sky provide online content access via broadband, eliminating dependency on traditional satellite signals.
