The Home Alone house’s owners have pledged to restore the property following uproar from fans due to recent changes. Situated at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois, close to Chicago, this iconic residence was featured in the 1990 film.
A significant element in Home Alone, Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, ingeniously protected the property from burglars by setting up traps. However, fans were disappointed when the house was expanded in 2018, giving it a more simplistic look.
The new proprietors, who acquired the house for $5.25 million (£3.88 million), aim to return it to its original charm. Scott Price, the homeowner, expressed his intention to NBC5 Chicago, stating, “Our vision is to restore the warmth and nostalgia of the movie, with its vibrant colors and cozy ambiance that evokes a sense of family and home.”
Built in 1921, the century-old house boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms, an indoor basketball court, a home theater, and a poker room. Additionally, Lego has immortalized the property by creating a miniature brick replica.
Previously, the house owners collaborated with Airbnb to offer fans a chance to spend a night in the house, complete with recreated traps, pizza delivery, and an experience hosted by Devin Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister in the original movie.
Macaulay Culkin, the original star of Home Alone, recently shared that his children are unaware of his role in the film series. Despite this, he remains amazed by the enduring popularity of the 1990 movie, acknowledging that it resonates with both nostalgic adults and new generations.
Reflecting on his family life, Culkin revealed an amusing incident where his son failed to recognize him in old photos resembling his character, Kevin. He jokingly anticipated the moment his son would connect the dots and realize his father’s on-screen persona.
As the actor awaits the day his son comprehends his iconic role, he humorously anticipates the inevitable realization and aims to preserve the magic of the character for as long as possible.
