Ireland’s Most Wanted Criminal ‘The Don’ Assassinated in Pub

Share

A notorious criminal kingpin, known as ‘The Don,’ was assassinated in a pub while in the company of his teenage daughter after receiving a chilling phone call. Eamon Dunne, a feared figure in north Dublin, led a criminal gang involved in various illegal activities such as drug trafficking, armed robberies, extortion, and murder. Linked to multiple homicides, he was the most wanted man in Ireland at the time of his demise. The fatal incident occurred during a birthday celebration at the Faussagh House pub in Dublin in April 2010.

During the attack, two gunmen burst in, commanding everyone to get down before opening fire on Dunne, who was seated with his 17-year-old daughter. In a desperate attempt to shield himself, Dunne grabbed a lounge worker, who was waiting to be paid by him. Another gunman stood guard outside to prevent Dunne’s escape, while a getaway driver waited nearby. Dunne sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head, with six bullets recovered from his body. Sources indicated that Dunne had received several ominous calls before the assault, including one from a jailed criminal serving a life sentence for murder.

The incarcerated criminal, making the call from Mountjoy Prison using an illicit cellphone, accused Dunne of having an affair with his girlfriend. Witnesses reported that Dunne displayed his usual aggressive demeanor during the conversation. Following the attack, Dunne was left dead on the floor as his accomplices fled the scene, leaving his daughter distraught. Allegedly, a rival gang from the north inner city orchestrated the hit on Dunne, who was a prime target for law enforcement agencies in Ireland due to his criminal activities.

Despite being under constant surveillance by multiple police units, including the National Drugs Unit and the Criminal Assets Bureau, Dunne continued his illicit operations. His paranoia, fueled by excessive drug use, led to intensified suspicions within his circle. While some individuals were detained in connection with the assassination plot, no charges were brought, leaving the murder unresolved and adding to the legacy of violence surrounding Dunne’s criminal empire.
