Thunder Bay native Krista Scharf, a prominent curler, is set to lead Team Despins as skip for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. After a successful run with her previous team, which culminated in numerous appearances at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Scharf’s former team disbanded earlier this year as members shifted focus to family commitments. However, Scharf’s passion for the sport reignited when she was approached by Team Despins to join their ranks.
Excited by the opportunity, Scharf expressed her eagerness to return to competitive play alongside her new teammates. She acknowledged the significant adjustment of transitioning to a different team but is enthusiastic about contributing her experience and skills to the group. Team Despins, aiming for success in the upcoming season, is eyeing the Northern Ontario championship and a coveted spot at the 2027 Scotties.
With the inclusion of new team member Abby Deschene, Scharf emphasized the importance of rigorous practice sessions leading up to the competitions. Despite time constraints due to ice availability, Scharf’s determination to support her teammates and strive for excellence shines through. The team roster includes Robyn Despins at third, Deschene at second, Rebecca Carr at lead, and Nicole Westlund-Stewart as the fifth player.
As they gear up for the season, Scharf is committed to pushing herself and her teammates to their full potential, aiming for success on the curling rink and beyond.
