London authorities have issued a rare public safety alert following the bail release of a 19-year-old man who faced charges related to child sexual abuse material offenses. The investigation was launched on July 28 in response to a report alleging that the individual had made threats of violence, sexual assault, and harm towards a teenage girl known to him. Identified as Connor Bennett, he was initially apprehended on July 30 on charges of making threats of bodily harm.
Subsequently, Bennett was also charged with the possession and access of child sexual abuse and exploitation material following a search operation. Appearing in court on Tuesday, he was granted bail, prompting law enforcement to express concerns for public safety and issue a community notification to seek information from potential witnesses. Bennett’s bail conditions include residing in Thorold, Ont., close to St. Catharines, refraining from owning or using electronic devices with internet connectivity, avoiding contact with individuals under 18 unless accompanied by a designated guardian, and abstaining from possessing any weapons.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information on the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
